So what is Buqi?

Buqi is a non-contact energy healing therapy which concentrates on spinal health, the energy system and the interrelationships of the body, mind and emotions. Buqi treatment involves using energy forces that have been developed and understood through a specific and lengthy training of meditation, Taijiwuxigong and Taiji 37 forces (T'ai Chi) under the direct tutelage of Dr Shen Honqxun, a Chinese Grandmaster.

The Buqi Practitioner will have developed their own 'energy system' through a lengthy process of self-development which allows them to sense, feel and interact with the energy system of another; intelligent being upon intelligent being. The Practioner works with, what is described as, 'empty force' to bring about internal movement, to oppose contraction in the recipient and to clear 'binqi'.

One of the main premises is that of clearing 'binqi' which is the negative or disharmonious energy patterns that are holding the body/mind system in a pattern of 'dis-ease', pain or illness. It is a matter of daily normality for the Buqi practitioner to locate binqi in the body of another and not particularly unusual! The most astounding element is that binqi can be moved or mutated which evokes change in the body; always fascinating and beneficial!

The other main intention is in bringing about a lengthening of the spine which results in a clearer pathway of nerve transmission, body fluids and release of parastic tension of the musculo-skeletal system. The release of the diaphragm has a profound effect on the system.

The mind, body, spirit connection is never far removed from a Buqi session and the Buqi Practitioner is trained to address all levels of being.

The Buqi Session
A Buqi session is a one-to-one treatment session. The client remains fully clothed and is either sitting in a chair or standing. The session is an opportunity to work on a specific issue or issues, in a more intense manner than perhaps in a class setting. For the horse, the surroundings do need to be conducive for a quiet session, i.e. not at feed or exercise times.

Buqi is a unique form of energy healing which is non-invasive, works with specific treatment techniques and has proved to successfully help alleviate many common health conditions.

An Explanation
Dr Shen describes the Buqi system as coming from ancient, almost forgotten techniques, which he has researched and developed from his own studies and experience. Dr Shen emphasises the importance of the spine and cites that theThe double vicious circle link between the spinal column and the onset of disease is becoming a globally recognised medical fact. Further, Buqi theory describes how a long term poor body posture impinges on the health of the spine, i.e. the intervertebral spaces, which in turn affects the proper nerve function. Of equal importance are the emotional habits, effects and patterns which also have their influence on the body, both physiologically and in the way the body is held, carried and used.

The aim of Buqi is to address the posture, the health of the nerve information, the structure of the spine and the stored emotional information to break the pattern that creates the dysfunction. Buqi is used to both clear the body of physical toxins and 'negative' or 'stagnant energy', which is termed 'binqi', but also to support the healthy movement of internal energy, the flow of vital energy, and to tap into the self-regulatory and natural health-giving functions of the body.

Buqi Health Transmission
Buqi is done without physically touching the body of the patient but by information transmission - this is done by the practitioner activating their own energy system and directing different types of 'information' to specific areas on the body of the client.. Different treatment techniques are used to generate movement of 'binqi' or 'negative factors' and also to activate the clients own energy system.

Whilst receiving a Buqi treatment you may feel different sensations such as the spinal column lengthening, heat, cold, itching and sometimes even the feeling of pain leaving via the hands or the feet. There may also sometimes be emotional reactions, such as laughing, crying, sadness or a feeling of lightness or increased ease.

Self-empowering exercises may be shown to you so that you may practise these at home or you may wish to join a class that is suitable for your needs.

The Buqi Professional
The Buqi system has a specific treatment methodology and is a part of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine. Students will have studied the aetiology (causes) of disease from an energetic perspective and will have a considered and lengthy process of self-development; a necessary and fundamental part of their own training.

Further to horses:

By contrast, the effects seen on horses is reliant upon the sensitivity and objectivity of the observer in noticing change and improvement. In addition, when people work on people they already have an advantage insofar that they know what it is to be a person! When a person is working on a horse there is still a reliance upon a human projection of what it is to be a horse!
